Blessings and joy,
Your Frankie.
(This story is for my friend, Selina the Pagan. The happiest pagan I’ve ever met.)
Well, I was happy till I read that article, “All love contains an element of grief, I am terrified of dying,” by Allegra Chapman. Now I am scanning the bus schedules to see should I chose the six o five or the four o nine to throw myself under. I love the Lord God Almighty and his son the Lord Jesus Christ. Asked them both to save me when I was 19. They did. I’m 72 now so I’ve been walking with these two men for 50+ years. There is no one who can comfort and cheer up a sad sack like me better than these two guys. And they gave me the Holy Spirit to guide and joke with me so I’m good. But with my sins forgiven, heaven mine, a beautiful wife of 40+ years, 4 kids ,11 grandkids, two dogs and the ability to write like I do. A gift that God gave me, with all that and my friends and coworkers across the globe I still get depressed when I think of me not being here anymore. Yeah, I sorta get what Paul said “Eye has not seen nor ear heard, nor has it entered into the heart of man the things God has prepared for them that love him. “Good things here. Some bad things too, sure. But no sorrow or sadness or pain or loss up there. And I heard on Halloween the Tree of Life has fun size and full-size Snickers bars in cool orange and black scary wrappers. And you already know I’m camping under that tree big time with a LARGE wicker basket. But right now, I want to focus on my favorite subject. No, not God. Moi. God should be my #1 but it’s definitely me.
See, this is all I’ve known. Yes, his heaven is real and available to anyone who will kneel before Jesus and ask him to forgive them. When he died on the cross, he died for all mankind’s sins, though some days it feels like he did it all just for me, mine are so many. He was buried and after three days he rose from the dead as proof God our Father accepted his death as payment for all the sins of mankind. What a guy! What a God. And the simple truth is this. Who goes to heaven? If you love Jesus you go to heaven. That’s it. Love God, go to be with God. Love the Devil, go be with him in Hell. Paywall here
But this life is all I’ve experienced. All I know. And I like it here. Not scared of dying but really don’t want to. But all of us will. And as I begin this piece God reminded me (Cuz God told my Buddy Tommy Woodhouse to pray for me while I was writing this piece) God reminded me that death was a gift from him. And if that’s not the kind of gift you want to open on your birthday then let’s just say God uses death for his purposes. It takes us from pain and sorrow and grief and brings us back to God who gave us his spirit life force in the first place. Judgment sure. The books opened and he rolls tape on us, you and me and the whole world gets to see how I was checking out that girl or was angry with my mum or swiped that gum? Hey! Now you’re meddling. Sir.
He opens the book of life. Big book I’m thinking. Not a best seller. There’s only one but it’s God’s best seller. It’s his number one book. His angel reads in the book looking for Frankie Chocolate’s name. My real name, not this funny one I use here. And BAM! There it is. And God the Father smiles. And Jesus his son smiles. I can’t see the Holy Spirit just now but I’m thinking he’s smiling too. And Jesus whispers to me it’s almost October and they got Snickers and Take5 bars on the Tree of Life this Halloween so now I’m sure this is heaven. So, heaven is gonna be great. And Hell is gonna be terrible so don’t go there.
But death is supposed to be bad. It rips us away from family and friends and that’s bad. But it brings us to God and that’s the best of all even through the pain of death. If you love Jesus, it brings you to God. If you only loved yourself, you’re just loving the Devil even though you don’t think you are. “All those who hate me love death.” Don’t like that quote? Argue with God about it. Me, I’m looking for a really, really big basket and soon I’m gonna be heading over to the Tree of Life to be ready for that special Halloween treat. But dying still sucks.
Your pal, Frankie chocolate. The End.
